ESTENSIONE E DELIMITAZIONE DEI CORE URBANI DELLA CITTÀ DI SASSARI / Battino, Silvia. - In: BOLLETTINO DELL'ASSOCIAZIONE ITALIANA DI CARTOGRAFIA. - ISSN 0044-9733. - 143:(2011), pp. 29-48.
abstract:
The cities represent the places where concentrate the streams of people, assets, informations
and, even if they differ in position, dimension and, in particular, in their functions,
they remain, in the long run, and with a system of knots and links, more and more intricate,
the main protagonists of the local, national and international development. Every
city, even if represented by its "historic centre" (space that not always has maintained its
role of principal central position in the urban evolutionary processes), has seen, in its interior,
to develop further areas tending to place themselves, to specialize and to concentrate
in a functional way: therefore districts marked by one or more dominant functions, commercial,
administrative, residential, cultural. Starting from the definition of the Central Business District (CBD) or "central place" of the city and keeping as reference the "urban
environments" or "districts" of the last town-planning project of the city of Sassari, we
have proceeded to the quantitative and distributive analysis of the urban activities of
upper level of the whole city's territory. The calculation of some indicators of the above
activities in connection both with the lenghth of the roads of their pertinence and the
number of residents of every urban environment of reference, has highlighted the fact that
such activities refer, for more than four fifths, to the close city and concentrate, significantly,
in four only of the thirty-two districts forming it. The iconographic representations,
drawn-up on a georeferenced map, allow to visualize this central area (CBD) and to locate
a core, Piazza d’Italia, where a reduced number of residents corresponds to a greater intensity
of rare activities.
