UNI ISO 5707:2001 specifies that vacuum drop in the receiver shall be within 2 kPa,
also in presence of liner slips and unit fall-offs.
The purpose of this study was to compare the performances of 6 vacuum servo–
controlled regulators currently used in milking systems.
Results showed that most of the regulation systems exceed the noise limit of 80 dB(A)
with a peak of 86 dB(A). Regulator leakages were always within the limits defined in ISO
standards, however there were differences of 70 – 80% among the different models.
Considering the sensitivity of regulation, the regulator performances were adequate. All
the regulators were able to limit the vacuum drop within 2 kPa, with different values ranging
from 0,19 to 0,35 kPa. Performing a dry fall-off test, the response rate of some regulators was
very fast (0,93 s), while for others was more than double (2,51 s).
