abstract:
The restoration of building in ruin is a relevant theme, widely treated in literature, declining its various aspects, such as interpretation, meaning and solutions. However, there remains a certain difficulty in dealing with this issue from the planning point especially compared to the degree of completeness of the architecture, that it is lawful be proposed, and the obvious repercussions that this has with even respect to the landscape aspects. In this sense, Sardinia, where there are still intact landscape contexts and where the phenomenon of abandonment has led to a vast a vast amount of historic buildings in the state of ruins, contains an interesting variety of realiza-tions, characterized by different materials, shapes and balances. In this paper, through the critical examination of some examples, the various approaches to the theme in resto-rations carried out since the twentieth century. Projects are examined through the categories of consolidation and functional reintegration. In fact, structural restoration, not separated by the criteria of general restoration, deter-mines operational difficulties related to compatibility, reversibility, and minimal intervention that are amplified on the scale of the ruin. Conversely, the reintegration -regardless they are aimed at reconstituting the unity of the building or not- demand careful reflections both on their entity and on the basis of the architectural language to be used.
