Abstract:
: In regard to Sardinia, studies on canine vector-borne diseases are scarce. This
study aimed to examine the most common vector-borne diseases affecting domestic dogs in this area
and how clinical signs are associated with the disease. The results highlight that 48% of the tested
dogs were positive for at least one pathogen, with 34.5% of them having significant clinical symptoms
resembling vector-borne disease infections and 65.5% having no signs. These results suggest that
preventive measures should be taken to control the spread of vectors and to reduce the infection risk
to humans and pets.
