Abstract:
This paper shows the results of a first investigation with the Ground-penetrating radar (GPR), carried out in the Basilica of Porto Torres (Sardinia, Italy). Numerous studies are done on it, due to its planimetry as two-apse church; today, it still appears complex to read this church, due to substantial alterations (restoration made so far) which led it to have the "Romanesque conformation" that we can observe now. It was investigated with the GPR, in order to increase its knowledge, confirming or denying the information that can be deducted by archival and bibliographic sources or what can be observed directly. The constructive vicissitudes, often not yet fully understood, the restorations not exhaustively documented, are the aspects to which we try to give support with GPR. This research can be also the “start - point” to understanding the current structural problems: as a matter of fact, the Church have not an optimal state of health and it seems to be due reflect on this.
