abstract:
Rap music is one of the most important musical phenomenon of the last twenty years. Beside festive practices, it also affirmed as a critical and anti-establishment art. Made especially by young people descendants of immigrants, living in deprived French inner-city areas, the banlieues, rap music has become a way of social revendication. In their texts rappers use elements of their plurilingual repertoire, which mirrors the different countries of their origins. Through loan words from their indigenous languages they exhibit multiple belongings, plural identities. This is precisely what we aim to show in this article through the analysis of a corpus of songs from the 1990’s to nowadays.
