The story of the «Isola delle Rose» gained great renown, which is reflected to this day. The affair is undoubtedly an interesting benchmark for reflection on the International Law of the Sea and on the evolution of the powers of the coastal State over time. In order to correctly frame the case at issue, it is above all the configuration of the powers of the coastal State on the continental shelf that requires an effort of construction and reflection. Because of the legal framework in force at the time the affair took place, its outcome does not seem to be able to give rise to any reservations. Imagining a new «Isola delle Rose» today would be pure utopia, considering the extension of the sovereign powers and jurisdiction of the coastal State over its own waters
