Abstract:
This study analyses the pluviometric extremes for the period 1951-2005 starting from ten homogeneous series in
Southern Sardinia (Italy). The indices, calculated on an annual scale, are similar to the ones used in the field
project CLIVAR-WCRP. The elaboration of the trend has been carried out on both the entire period 1951-2005
and on the partial one 1980-2005. As far as the zonal tendencies of the 1951-2000 period are concerned, the
indices show decreasing trends that are significant at 95% according to the Mann-Kendall test for indices that
express the maximum number of consecutive dry and wet days (CDD, CWD) and the daily intensity of
precipitation (SDII). In the last period 1980-2005 observed a reversal of trend regarding the maximum
precipitation of 5 consecutive days (RX5day) and the total precipitations of the « very wet » (R95p) and
« extremely very wet »(R99p) days. The applied methodology allows a comparison with the evolution of rains in
the Italian peninsula and in the Mediterranean basin.
