abstract:
The wavesis a novel of "silence", a verbalization of a mystical vision which Virginia Woolf has as she was finishingTo the lighthouse. Writing in her diary, she refers toThe wavesas "that fin in the waste of water which appeared to me over the marsches out of my window at which cannot be described but rather must be, in her words, "suggested and brought slowly by repeated images before us until it stays, in all its complexity, complete". It is this mystical awareness of Reality or Being that Virginia Woolf tries to evoke thorugh the lives of the six "characters" inThe Waves.
