Progetto per un parco urbano nell’area italsider di Bagnoli / Design project for an urban park in the ex-Italsider area of Bagnoli

The essay depicts the development of the project for an urban park in the ex-Italsider area of Bagnoli, designed by a temporary team led by the architect Francesco Cellini (Architecture Department of Roma Tre University). This proposal turned out to be the winner of a two phases international design competition (2007-2009). It is considered an exemplary case study, especially for the forcefulness of its project criteria, holding together the two solid design aspects, one territorial and the other architectural; unfortunately, at the end it remained only on paper without reaching any concrete outcome. Nevertheless, there are at least two reasons that make this example useful for the “sguardi” section of the international design studio Villard 17. First of all its position: the ex-Italsider area is exactly on the border of the concatenation of the areas examined; moreover there are many architectural themes that affected the student’s design experiments. For those reasons this case study is very interesting for the goals of this section and it allows to illustrate the related design issues and the project challenges with which students have been measuring, in terms of proportion and identity of the intervention scale.
