abstract:
The study was undertaken to investigate the treatments of squamous cell carcinoma in the cat. Methods of treatment were
surgery, systemic chemotherapy with bleomycin, intratumoral administration of cisplatin in sesame oil emulsion and cryosurgery.
The therapeutic protocol was decided according to the clinical stage of the neoplasia. The clinical remission and the disease
free interval were evaluated. The analysis of the results pointed out as, in presence of small lesions (stages Tis/T2) surgery
and cryosurgery allow to obtain an excellent long term control, while in presence of more severe lesions (stages T3/T4)
the prognosis is uncertain but the aggressive surgery represents a valid option. The systemic chemotherapy with bleomicin
can be taken into consideration as primary chemotherapy and adjuvant therapy. The intratumoral administration of cisplatin in
sesame oil emulsion did not provide encouraging results.
