Abstract:
The contribution presents the results obtained from a qualitative research that involved
34 students from five upper secondary schools in the province of Sassari. The students took part
in focus groups that dealt with themes such as the transition from upper secondary school to
university and/or to the labour market. During the focus groups, the students described the difficulties
they encountered during this transition and the support they received from school, family
and friends. The students’ thoughts, in line with the prospects for research “Student Voice”, help
to understand in what ways schools can make improvements in the orientation process and in
sustaining students during the difficult decision-making process post graduation
