abstract:
Around mid of the '80, the Italian sector - at the time very narrow - of the archaeological sciences interessed to geo-topographical problems, answered with extreme vivacity to the practical and theoretical solicitations offered by the computer science and by the advanced technologies, decidedly setting itself to the state-of-the-art one in the European panorama, at least in this particular subject. Twenty years later it must be ascertained, from a side, the notable success of this type of applications that has, among the other, contributed to push toward territorial studies to many sectors of the Italian research that weren’t interessed in it; from the other the extreme splitting up of the initiatives, that remains an unsolved problem for the following developments. In the turn of one decade were in fact already lost those lines that would have been able to transform some peaks of quality, high but far away, in an approach systematically coordinated, and, especially, in a common cognitive base, maybe primitive but for this reason, "basic", not only for the development of the research, but also for diffused and shared form of archaeological heritage’s safeguarde.
