abstract:
The first hymn of Ambrose of Milan, aeterne rerum conditor, has a language explicitly Christological. The song revolves around the figure of the rooster second episode of the Passion of Scripture and, therefore, the denial of Peter. The singing of the rooster announces the day of salvation and the light that illuminates the night of sin. Peter, petra ecclesiae, along this route until the conversion, because the Scriptures come true. The gallus is identified with Christ even according to the key metric that puts the two words in close stylistic relationship.
