Le risorse culturali di Gran Canaria: itinerari turistici tra “sol y playa”

Gran Canaria occupies a central role in the Canary archipelago’s tourist offer:
tourism, now for a long time, is the most important economic engine and social of the
Island. After the upheavals space caused by the model “sol y playa”, public and private
operators have tried to address the tourist activity toward a diversified and sustainable
growth able to create new opportunities of “contact” between guests and host community:
the cultural resources are transformed into veritable attractions reproducing a tourist
demand that is more and more desirous of deep and diverse knowledge.
In particular, the segment of the cultural tourism with the promotion of thematic,
archaeological and ethnographic itineraries, may represent one of the paths to be taken
to change the image of an island often linked to the only enjoyment of its coasts.
