The book is a basic methodology manual and is addressed at those being confronted by an empirical social research and have little experience. The book presents some basic techniques also making use of examples and schematizations. This is an introduction to the techniques of gathering information (among the most commonly used in social sciences, such as questionnaire and interview), but also on sampling procedures, information organization and data analysis (one and two variables). In addition, the book also presents fundamental strategies with respect to two important levels of empirical research: the construction of the knowledge questions and presentation of results.
Starting from the observation that the choice and use of the technique is never neutral with respect to a research problem, the theoretical framework and the context in which we study, the volume also deals with some fundamental methodological aspects of social research. Therefore analysis is presented of an enquiry which, despite the shortcomings and deficiencies of its technical and methodological premises, can be credible in the eyes of the "profane".
