The concept of 'decorative, seen as a theoretical catalyst for anxieties and tensions of western culture, is examined in connection with the issues of folk culture, the feminine, the primitive, and to high and low spheres of cultural production (from avantgarde art to interior design, from fashion to architecture). The research covers a period spanning from the end of the XIXth century to the contemporay scene.
