Cultural diversity, citizenship, migration flows

The article examines the relationship between the concept of citizenship and that of multiculturalism, focusing in particular on overcoming the traditional view: that of considering the concept of citizenship as defined by the boundaries of a nation state. An analysis is specifically made of the concept of citizenship in a European context, which assumes - and at the same time prompts- the virtuous process of reciprocal integration between cultures as an indispensable means of achieving the Union's founding objectives.
