abstract:
In Furius Antias fr. e Blänsdorf (spiritus Eurorum viridis cum purpurat undas) the verb purpurat is a conscious Homericism and does not mean “dyes purple”, according to the communis opinio, but it means “heaves”, “raises”, “ruffles” in the light of the meaning of porfÚrV in Hom. Il. 14, 16 (`Wj d' Óte porfÚrV pšlagoj mšga kÚmati kwfù).
