The article analyzes recreational boating, operated without aim of profit, whose regulations differs in many respects from commercial navigation. There is no international regulation of recreational boating: according to the author, there is a need to fill the gap, because of the frequency of events involving recreational crafts relevant for more than just one national law, especially in maritime boundary areas. On the other hand, under the Italian Code of Yachting, the contract of carriage is not regulated even though pleasure crafts are often used for carriage in practice, there is no regulation of the contract of carriage, though it is well known in the praxis. Very often the so called «charters» of pleasure boats (especially with reference to major boats) include not only transfer from one point to another and accommodation and meals, but also entertainment and touristic services, thus providing services similar to those provided during a cruise.
