Abstract:
This paper discusses three proposals for the rehabilitation of three dismissed areas in Sardinia. The concurrence of prominent environmental, heritage, and cultural values is the common topic of all the sites.
These proposal tackle the problem of dismissal fundamentally as it were a matter of marginality and in-betweenness.
As shown in literature, marginality and in-betweenness suggest pioneering, experimental, creative, and hybrid interventions mainly oriented to strategies of empowerment.
The selected plans and projects suggest some possible forms of intervention among these, articulating these concepts in different ways, through the integration Landscape Design, Environmental Rehabilitation, Cultural Heritage Restoration and Local Development.
The most interesting result of these design experiences is that the mix of different dimensions, strategies, and actions within these dismissed sites mainly requires the development of management strategies that have also to acquire an intermediate scale and a more experimental character than traditional ones.
