I Vandali in Sardegna: continuità e rotture nella gestione di un territorio

The conquest of Sardinia did not lead to a distortion of its administrative organization and its social and economic frame but rather to an adaptation due to the presence of new institutional actors. The Vandal kings do not seem to have neglected the island; on the contrary, they assigned to its territory a contingent of Mauri, perhaps also Germanic troops and favored the creation of small Aryan communities. With them an occupation of the countryside began again, which will continue without interruption in the Byzantine age and which cannot be attributed only to the action of the Omusian bishops exiled by Thrasamund. On the other hand, the trade links with the Italian peninsula were definitively broken, replaced by an intense relationship with the African provinces, which sent interesting quantities of their productions to the island in exchange for raw materials which unfortunately did not leave archaeological evidence
