Abstract:
Nuragic settlements developed from the Middle Bronze Age autonomously or, more frequently, according to the Nuraghe,
by the juxtaposition of rectangular and circular structures placed in scattered and disjointed groupings. In quite ancient
times (Middle Bronze 2-3) the process of aggregation of circular and quadrangular structures begins, according to a
scheme that will tend to the centripetal development of housing complexes. In the early Iron Age, the central courtyard
building assumed a precise appearance characterized by a mainly circular shape unitary structure where the rooms are
arranged radially around the courtyard. Later, but still in the early Iron Age, there will be a tendency to disarticulation of
the isolates with the occurrence of a greater number of rooms - especially small ones - not necessarily located around the
court. The developments and outcomes of the village patterns are lost in the markedly limited settlement data available for
later Iron Age phases. The paper analyzes in a diachronic sense features and changes that will lead the Nuragic settlement
from sets of a few juxtaposed units to the establishment of complex groupings including both domestic and public spaces.
