Indagine preliminare su pseudogestazione e mortalità embrionale nelle capre allevate in Sardegna

A trial was carried out to assess the presence of the pseudopregnancy (PG) in the goats reared in Sardinia. They were involved 101 animals of two different farms (78 adults and 23 prepubertal goats). After synchronisation by vaginal sponge, 55 goats (Group 1) were submitted to artificial insemination (AI), and 46 (Group 2) were natural matted. All animals were tested for plasma levels of P4 (21 days post-AI or bucks introduction) and PSPB (32 days) by RIA, and a pregnancy diagnosis was performed by ultrasonography (60 days). The results, related to the induced oestrus, have enabled to individuate: a) 2 cases of PG both in adult goats submitted to A.I; b) 7 cases of embryo mortality (EM), 1 in Group 1 and 6 in Group 2; c) 4 cases of late abortion, (3 in Group 1 and 1 in Group 2). The RIA of P4 and PSPB enabled us to distinguish the PG from the EM and confirm the presence of the PG also in the goats reared in Sardinia.
