Abstract:
Seven “male-type” freemartins, 34-38-month old were described. The
gonads were situated in three cases in the abdominal cavity, in one case in the inguinal
canal and in the other three subcutaneously. The freemartins with gonads in the
subcutaneous exhibited masculinised behaviour and the circulating concentration of
testosterone were significantly higher (P<0.001). Fluctuation were not detect in the
secretory patterns of testosterone in the freemartins while a fluctuation characteristic of
seasonal influence was evident in the control rams (P<0.01)
