abstract:
The principal goals of anesthesia in neurosurgery are brain protection,
prevention of intracranial hypertension and therapeutic facilitation. Purpose of this study was to
evaluate the protocol of balanced anaesthesia with midazolam, fentanyl and sevoflurane in O2
enriched air with hyperventilation in forty ewes undergoing surgery for cerebral cenurosis in the
last two years in our clinic. Clinical and instrumental results show good efficacy and safety of
the association. Effectiveness of the hyperventilation in the control of cerebral perfusion could
be better evaluated through the measure of the O2 cerebral uptake by monitoring the difference
carotid–jugular O2 saturation (SaO2–SjvO2).
