Abstract:
This study focuses on The Jew of Malta2 and investigates the playwright’s recasting of late XVI century England as a dominant world ruled by the principles of violence and inequality. In this context, the protagonist of the play embodies the essence of renaissance, a cultural turn suspended between an ancient order of wisdom and social harmony, and a new order of inclusion and equality.
