abstract:
Automation and technological progress are leading to new borders in navigation and transport. Alongside the goal of integrating unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), the next challenge is to conduct flight in fully autonomous mode. To enable autonomous flight and the operation of drone swarms in multiple and cooperative configurations, technical and legal gaps must be filled. However, a flight conducts totally divorced from human operator intervention leads to an inevitable reshaping of the role of the “pilot in command” reduced to that of a mere supervisor.
