The Impact of Relativism on the Notion of Truth / Dell'Utri, Massimo. - (2010), pp. 71-88.
Abstract:
The aim of my paper is to take a stance in the debate over relativism, and to try to distinguish between different ways of ‘being relativist’. I isolate a sound relativistic position, and then analyze the possible consequences this position may have for the notion of truth. I do this, first, by highlighting a moderate relativism as the only viable relativistic position – a sort of third path between radical relativism and absolutism. This moderate relativism allows for a genuine notion of objectivity, and I show the role of fallibilism in making room for this notion. Secondly, I analyze the impact of moderate relativism on the notion of truth, and make a case in favor of alethic pluralism.
