Peculiarità dell'immigrazione straniera a Trieste. I principali aspetti della struttura demografica e abitativa

The foreign communities in Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region have set
a residential pattern mainly focused in regional nodes of attraction like province
or regional capitals with main urban functions and other cities with important
economic activities. Immigrants in the Region are mainly young people,
particularly in the Province of Pordenone, where the growth of immigrants seems
to be higher because of a growing job market. Foreign people living in the
city of Trieste are characterized by an average older age and maturity in terms
of number of migrants. This is due in particular to the presence of ethnic groups
of old immigration and communities coming from the developed countries.
The city of Trieste is characterized by a higher percentage value of immigrants
in the city itself occupying areas inside or in neighbourhoods of the Central Business
District. The different ethnic groups generally live in the same areas and
streets, although it seems that ethnic clustering is taking place with particular
reference to new immigration groups as Chinese and Senegal ones. The phenomenon is still at the beginning and needs a constant monitoring at large scale in
order to avoid migrant groups’ choices of ghettoization and segregation that
are against every integration scheme of respecting different cultures.
