Just over the south-oriental border of the modern area of Elles, a modest relief
constitutes a “tell” of anthropical/archaeological origin, whose western slopes include
some housing structures of the actual village and in which an exceptional presence
of archaeological materials is observed, referable, in first, to the Roman period.
The 74 megalithic tombs are located beginning from the extreme borders of the village.
It is possible to interpret the tendency to build the monumental structures, over that
around the hypothetical ancient village, also on the slopes of the reliefs that surround
the archaeological site, with the necessity to occupy points (as the slant of the high
grounds) less exploitable from the man for the resources, over that with the necessity
to offer visibility to the monumental sepulchres.
