Aspetti insediativi nel Sulcis tra Neolitico ed Eneolitico: il territorio di Villaperuccio / Melis, Maria Grazia. - (2003), pp. 83-95.
abstract:
In the panorama of prehistoric cultural development at Sulcis-Iglesiente, the area around Villaperuccio is home to several occurrences of notable scientific interest. The phenomenon of hypogeism, manifest in the spectacular necropolis at Montessu, was joined by the emergence of megalithism, represented by an interesting group of menhirs.
The fertile plain, irrigated by a substantial network of watercourses, offered an ideal habitat for human settlement from the Late Neolithic. The hilly western area, which to the south overlooks terrain currently covered by the waters of Lake Monte Prano, appears on the other hand to have been more frequently occupied during the Nuragic Age. Systematic field walking surveys have revealed 60 sites, mostly from the Nuragic Age. Prenuragic, Punic, Roman and medieval sites in the area are proportionally less well represented.
