Abitanti del territorio come artefici di un'opera relazionale e collettiva: la costruzione del MATer di Mamoiada

The subject of this article is a museum called the MATer (translation: MOTHer), created in the small village of Mamoiada in central Sardinia. The museum was built with the aim to offer, by re-interpreting some of the stone remains deposited on the countryside, some instruments that might help restore this relationship. It does so by producing new forms of narration that tend to bring to the surface a new, ‘poetic’, though at the same collective, vision of this particular territorial asset. By combining expert know-how and knowledge of the context with the interactive involvement of the community, the museum was conceived as work-in-progress - interactive, relational and convivial - in which, thanks to the use of an anachronistic perspective, artistic languages and multimedia slides, the different periods of time existing on the territory could be linked together again and instruments provided to recreate this ‘intelligent environment’ of the past, interweaving objects of affection, visions, concepts and symbols left to us by previous generations and which we must again learn to cherish.
