Abstract:
Starting with a translation – quite different from the usual one – of the first
verses of Parmenides’ sixth fragment, the text proposes a new interpretation of the
relationship in the poem On Nature between “truth,” “error,” and “opinion.” From
this perspective, truth rejects error, not opinion – of which truth has no awareness –, for it is rather doxa that is aware of its detachment from truth. In this way,
one can see in the first part of the Parmenidean work a kind of ante litteram deconstruction of metaphysics to which Western thought, starting from Plato and Aristotle, will give shape; and, in the second part, the design of a “negative metaphysics”
coinciding with the presentation of the doxastic universe by the Goddess.
