Corpi chimerici. Immagini del ritmo nell'arte del cavallo / Cherchi, Gavina Luigia Giuseppina. - In: LETTERATURA & ARTE. - ISSN 1724-613X. - 6:(2008), pp. 33-60.
abstract:
Both in Literature and Visual Arts horses are omnipresent, mainly as symbolic animals, belonging to an imagery mirroring complex and anthropologically important aspects of human culture. The iconographic tradition (both in the West and in the East) of the "flying gallop" showing horses galloping with extended legs, was not uprooted by Eadward Muybridge's photographs unveiling the "real" position of the legs. The "chimeric" bodies of horses in "flying gallop" weres still more convincing for artists (even Futurists, such as Umberto Boccioni) as if it were a sort of ineludible Pathosformel.
