«Recordar sin recordar: figuras de desplazamiento en "Nocturno de Chile" de Roberto Bolaño

In many cases the victims are those who remember the violence they have suffered at the hands of brutal powers, On the contrary, Bolaño explores the memory of a semi-guilty, that is, someone who belongs to whatPrimo Levi called the "gray area". This is the literary critic Sebastian Urrutia Lacroix. He evokes the years of dictatorship and shows his acceptance of the regime. This paper aims to show how the protagonist makes a series of digressions, tells superfluous details, gives euphemistic descriptions to postpone the confrontation with the memories of the dictatorship. These strategies of confrontation and non-confrontation with the past show the difficulty of many Latin Americans to admit that they have been involved with the dictatorship in different ways. The many figures of displacement are the origin of the comic character of the text that shows tragically ridiculous aspects of many other discourses of denial or of many other speeches that go in search of an impossible self-absolution.
