An anatomical study of a fossil palm petiole (Arecaceae) was carried out. The fossil was found in sediments
of Burdigalian age in the Rio Mannu basin (Ittiri, NW Sardinia). From a comparison with both fossil and existing
taxa it is concluded that the fossil palm belongs to the new species, Palmocaulon logudorense.
