Phenological tests were carried out on four vine cultivars (Vermentino, Cannonau, Nuragus and
Vernaccia) each grafted on to four rootstocks (1103 P, 779 P, semenzali di Palermo, 420 A).
In the research carried out between 1985 and 1988, the type of rootstock did not appear to
influence the phenology, but the results were significant1y different for the four vine cultivars.
The results also varied significant1y from one year to another during the trial period due to
meteorological variations.
Various bioclimatic indices were applied to the data, and the Amerine-Winkler index was the
one which corresponded most closely.
