Soil loss is one of the main causes of environmental decay and should be evaluated both quantitatively
and qualitatively. Soil loss analyses for the years 1958 to 1989, have been made on council
land in Sassari and Stintino in N.W. Sardinia. During this period loss of soil and loss of fertility
were reported in both areas due to urbanization, wich has involved marginal surfaces, mainly in
S3, S3-N1, S3-N2 land capability classes and class 4th irrigation suitability. However even such a
minimal loss, is important as far as agriculture and the natural landscape are concerned.
