Short description:
Venezia e il moderno. La "prudente" disponibilità al nuovo di una città che cambia / Rostagni, Cecilia. - (2020), pp. 134-143.
abstract:
The paper deals with the theme of Venice’s ability or otherwise to accept modern architecture during the twentieth century and retraces some significant stages of
the cultural and architectural debate that has affected the city. In the last century the city was not the homeland of preservation and suspicion before any innovative
intervention, even if neither Wright, nor Kahn, nor Le Corbusier were allowed to build in the lagoon. This was not just a matter of ignorance or carelessness, existing
a powerful cultural debate and keen confrontation on those projects. In the twentieth century, as in the past, Venice demonstrates to be a complementarity of times and languages, intolerant of any form or design that resolves entirely within itself.
