Les Sept Sages de Rome en diachronie : observations sur le plus ancien incunable en langue française.

The Seven Sages of Rome is one of the most relevant narrative cycles of the European Middle Ages. Deriving from the Book of Sindibād, the Seven Sages have been translated into many languages and variants, firstly in oriental and later into many occidental versions. In our contribution we have studied the most ancient incunable in French language – the only not stemming from H, but from the L prose version – printed by Pierre Le Rouge at the end of the 15th century. Cultural, historical and linguistical factors will be focussed upon in our analysis.
