Archeologia globale dei paesaggi fluviali e costieri della Sardegna: la foce del Tirso e le aree umide del Golfo di Oristano tra antichità e medioevo

The Project Rural settlements in Sardinia between late antiquity and the Middle Ages: terrestrial road system and waterways in the dynamics of landscapes aimed to analyse the characteristics of the rural population of Sardinia’s coastal areas, which are in particular characterized by wetlands and river mouths; these areas are rich in natural resources, subject to accelerated environmental changes and have always had an intense settlement dynamic. Among the sample areas, the one which has deepen the understanding of the relationship between man and environment and allowed an attempt to the reconstruction of the landscapes, is represented by the territory that overlooks the Gulf of Oristano, in central-western Sardinia, especially in its northern sector, at the mouth of the Tirso river, proving particularly interesting re- sults; here, between Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages we witness the transfer of functions of the primary center, from the an- cient city of Tharros to Oristano, the new capital of the Judgeship.
