The author reconstructs the history of the connections of Sardinia and Corsica with mainland, till the era of liberalization in maritime and air services, comparing solutions adopted by Italy and France for those islands under EC Law . He highlights current difficulties in mobility experienced by north-western Sardinia. He contests that low-cost air services are sufficient to meet transport needs in the perspective of “territorial continuity”.
