The purpose of my article is to highlight the action of bishop Giacomo M. Radini Tedeschi within the normative framework of education policy after the unification of Italy.
The theme of education was one of the central aspects of his episcopate, as a result of the process of secularisation of the public school, even in the diocese of Bergamo.
In the article, I will focus mainly on the controversy triggered by the Prefect's decision to apply the Provincial Council's decision that allowed religious education in public elementary schools only outside of school timetable.
The same local authority requested that religion should not be imparted to V and VI class
Thus, the process of the secularization of education became the subject of theological and intellectual speculation in the volume written by the Bishop in 1912 and in a series of initiatives that affected all areas of the orobic church.
Concluding remarks will be on the role played by Monsignor Radini Tedeschi to stem the secularization of the school in a season of great ferment in the Catholic movement.
