Abstract:
: Carl Schmitt’s political theology implies at least two different
internal styles of reasoning. The first – inspired by the idea of
representation – postulates a structural analogy between theology and
jurisprudence and involves a practice of translating “secularized
theological concepts” into the political jargon. From this viewpoint,
according to Schmitt political theology is the structure (systematischen
Struktur) of political concepts as related to their origins as theological
concepts. The second – which I call political theology as stasiology –
develops the Schmittian category of “the political” (the friend/enemy
dichotomy) within theology and, in particular, within the Trinitarian
doctrine
