Abstract:
The article aims at highlighting how, in the phototextual mise-enpage
of Alix Cléo Roubaud’s and Francesca Woodman’s photoliterary
works, it is possible to retrace a “poetics of the hiatus”
which is measured in a dizzying gap between verbal and visual, ordinary
words and literary words, past and future, first and third
person narrative, representation and support. As for Francesca
Woodman, we will focus on her artist’s books. As regards Alix
Cléo Roubaud, her most famous series, Si quelque chose noir, will
be investigated, together with other shots and her Journal, the latter
being for a long time her only work available to the public.
Furthermore, a reflection on a possible intermedial interpretation
of the layout will be advanced starting from the short film Les
Photos d’Alix, conceived by Alix Cléo Roubaud and Jean Eustache
in 1980.
