Thegenus Caulerpaincludes tropical and subtropical species; of themC. racemosa(Forsskal) J. Agardh,Caulerpa taxifolia(Vahl.) C. Agardh, andCaulerpa prolifera(Forsskal) J. V. Lamouroux are present in Sardinia.C. racemosahas been recorded for the first time in 1996 along the Gulf of Cagliari and more recently has been detected in Serpentara MPA and in the Gulf of Asinara. In October 2002C. taxifoliahas been recorded from Golfo Aranci-NE. Sardinia and from Tavolara MPA, where the local small colony has been manually eradicated.
